STREET food and markets planned for new town hall square ‘Cafe culture plan for town centre’, August 24)

Alan Smithee: Ok, looking at that photo, am I missing something here? Isn’t that a rather large tree in front of the market hall. I didn’t think they wanted trees there because they blocked the view of the supposedly beautiful building.

Barbara Caulfield

Russell: The Square looks dreadful with the GREY paving against our lovely sandstone buildings. Seems very hard to keep clean too

Kirsty Barr: They need a massive incentive to small businesses. It’s literally going to take free rents or massive reduced rentals with the promise they won’t increase to greedy prices once things pick up.

Suzio Feddyo: Born n bred in Accrington 56 years ago. Seen a lot of changes along the way. I’m happy with the new town square, a nice place to have a stroll apart from the police cars passing and taxis dropping off which can’t be helped.

Barbara Smith: Sounds good I might even come to town for that.

Larry Wells: Oldham is just the same and it had one of the best markets in the country Christopher Rushton: Yes let’s import a cafe and close the local ones down that have served us for years, paid rents rates etc and employed local people. We could use some more empty shops.

Victoria Hilton: They seem to like the food markets. It’s like the only idea they come up with. If they did a few stalls where you could take the food home and not eat it there and then would be nice. Linda Masterman: know it’s an artist impression but they just chopped two trees down and now plan putting more in? Crazy / money wasters!

Liz Lancs: If you can’t fill the existing market stalls, nor the empty shops, why’d you think these stalls would do better?

Mark Dixon: The council need to look at doing something out of the box. Something that is unique and not shopping malls and sameness

Peter Nixon: Who’d be a councillor eh...Whinge when you try something to make the town better...whinge if you don’t. Looks good to me.

Gayle Knight: Those designs show a concept for the square that wasn’t used. This was a really early design. Steven Lee Hacking: How about asking local businesses to sit down with the council and get some feedback from the coal face

Paul Terry: Has anyone been in touch with the weather to ask their view?

Ann Haworth: Not for me...we need more shops.

FUNDRAISING efforts for cancer patient Charlie Procter called off (‘Treatment to save brave Charlie would cost $1.1 million’, August 24)

Carole Bancroft: How can they put a price on a life? Keep sharing this post and hope for some miracle x Katrina Rigby: So sad x

Stacy Whittaker: No value should be put on a child’s life...poor boy x if I had the money it would be given without a second thought x

Summer Johnson: Heartbreaking x

Jean Rio Alderson: God bless you little one x

Caz Neville: How can you put an amount like that on a child’s life! Awful sick and just shocking!.
