Daniel wishes he’d arrived a year ago

STANLEY’S new arrival Daniel Barlaser admits he should have opted for the Reds 12 months ago!

The 21-year-old Newcastle United midfielder joined Stanley last week on a six-month loan deal.

And he revealed the move could have come about last season – when he opted for Crewe instead!

In fact, he came off the bench at the Wham Stadium in the Reds 1-0 win when the sides met in League Two.

“I could have come here last year and I didn’t, but I probably should have because of the way things panned out,” he told the club’s official website.

“The style of play at Crewe didn’t really suit me, and I didn’t get as much game time as I wanted. All I want to do is play football – good football so that the fans enjoy it and hopefully I can do that.”

The central midfielder has been at Newcastle since the age of eight and made his first team debut in an FA Cup win over Birmingham.

He has featured three times for Newcastle’s first team, as well as three appearances for their U21s in their 2017/18 League Trophy tilt.

“I’m delighted to be here,” he said. “Looking at the fixtures and the results the club has had recently they’ve started really well.

“Stanley had a tremendous season last season, and they played very good football which suits me.

“I like to play in the middle, although I can play in a three and I’ve played a couple of times behind the frontman, but I’m more favoured for a central role.

“I’ll chip in with a couple of goals but more assists. At Newcastle I was more of a traditional No 8 or No 4, so I like to take people on and get assists really.”
