Pub regulars enjoyed trip to Brussels festival

A PUB landlord and 37 regulars enjoying a weekend trip to Europe are shown in this week’s Looking Back.

Frank Daniels, landlord of the King’s Arms Hotel on Lee Street in Accrington, led the group on the annual trip in 1974, top. It included a day at the Weize Beer Festival near Brussels and afterwards Mr Daniels said: “Everybody really enjoyed it. It was better than our trip to Amsterdam last year.”

David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd returned to Accrington Cricket Club for a presentati­on evening, above right.

Chairman Peter Westwell congratula­ted him on being selected for England and thanked David for the help he continued to give the club.

David presented young Accrington player John Swanney with a new bat for being man of the match in an under 18s game and also donated a pair of batting gloves to players Glyn Davis and Mick Wilson (pictured).

Three little pigs, a wolf and 200 children had the time of their lives at Christ Church School in Accrington. The occasion was the Theatre Mobile’s presentati­on of their own version of the Three Little Pigs story, above left.

Joan Kaieltyka was pictured in the 1970s returning to Accrington from South America to visit her brother and sister-in-law, centre.

Joan moved away from the borough 25 years earlier and had lived through five revolution­s.

She was photograph­ed with her sister-in-law Joan Croasdale (left) and Joan’s son Mark, age 11.

Children accompanie­d by their parents returned to St John’s Junior School in Accrington for extra lessons during an ‘open night’, right.

Mrs R Wright was photograph­ed by Garth Dawson with two pupils trying out some of the equipment.
