Three’s the magic number for Reds

-

VIEW FROM THE CLAYTON LANE END

THREE draws in a row. Three times we’ve come from behind in a row. Three times the goal has been from a set piece… I’ll stop now. It might be more beneficial if I just copy and paste these opinion pieces if this carries on much longer. Deary me, we just can’t get the ball into the net from open play.

We were at sixes and sevens again for most of the first half. After an early flurry we seem to be taking our eyes off the ball in games and losing a bit of concentration. You’ll get punished for that at this level, and Burton could’ve had more than one before we eventually made it to half time

Great to see Sykes get the nod, he had another good game which is no easy task against that experienced Albion side. It’ll do him wonders going into the weekend.

I did think Zanzala looked sharp coming off the bench and caused some real problems for the Burton back line and pushed us forward well. I was quick to jump on his back last week so hats off to him. That being said, it really looked like the referee was a tad hasty pointing to the spot. Looking back on video it looks more of a foul but in real time I thought it should never have been given. But, who cares?

He’s so unlucky in stoppage time, twice. I didn’t realise it was a change of keeper and the young lad was making his debut in front of the Clayton End. Fair play to him because that’s an unbelievable stop to deny us the win. No home win in 4 now, a little bit worrying but we’re edging ever closer to it. Hopefully its 5th time the charm against Wimbledon or I think we can officially label it as a bit of a problem.

A quick mention to the two debutant we saw introduced as well. The midfielder completely galvanised us and it may take Coley’s eye to start him on Saturday after Brown and Conneely seemed to be struggling a bit during the first hour.

Connor Hall should score that chance in the end (the one that hits the post) but he did extremely well to pick it out of the air. He’s a right lump up front and will give us another good option in an area we’ve been lacking thus far. I don’t know how he does it, but John seems to be able to find a few diamonds in the rough on the loan market, and with us going up a league we’re only going to attract a better calibre of player. We’ve even got another that we’re yet to see from Newcastle which is encouraging, not sure about his white hair though...

Onto Saturday and a nice away trip to fellow Lancastrian’s Fleetwood Town. I’m really hoping for a large away following as it’ll look great in that small terrace should we muster up a nice 600.

Fisherman’s Friends galore for us all then and let’s be hoping not to hear that daft song they play when they score. Hopefully we can get a first clean sheet of the season but if we happen to concede just listen out for it, it’s truly haunting.
