Accrington end season with defeat

IT was a frustratin­g end to the Lancashire League season for the local sides, with all of them suffering defeats in their final games.

ACCRINGTON ended the season with a defeat at home after they were beaten by 65 runs against Ramsbottom at Thorneyhol­me Road.

The match was reduced to 47 overs per side, and Ramsbottom won the toss and decided to bat. Tom Parton was the star player for Ramsbottom as he hit 103 to help his team finish on 235-4 at the end of their innings.

Accrington couldn’t get close to the total in response, as they were bowled all out for 170, handing Ramsbottom the win. It means that Ramsbottom end an impressive campaign in third place after 19 wins from their 23 games, while Accrington finished in 10th position.

ENFIELD also came up short in their final game after they were beaten by three wickets against Haslingden at Bentgate.

Enfield batted first, but were extremely poor with the bat and were bowled all out for just 86, with only three batsmen reaching double figures.

It looked like Haslingden were on course for a comfortabl­e win but they made it a lot harder for themselves and were 63-7 at one stage, but an unbeaten 24 from Jordan Shannon helped them reach the target and earn the win. Haslingden finish in 15th place after the victory, with Enfield one position above them in 14th place.

CHURCH were defeated after a three wicket loss against Lowerhouse at Blackburn Road. Church batted first, and despite 51 from Levi Wolfenden, they were bowled all out for 103, with five batsmen failing to score a single run.

Lowerhouse made it difficult for themselves after losing seven wickets, but they reached the target to claim the win. Church end the season in fifth place, with Lowerhouse in second.

RISHTON suffered an emphatic defeat after they lost to Darwen by 239 runs at Birch Hall. Darwen won the toss adn decided to bat, with big scores from Neels Bergh (81), Neil Cordingley (78) and Sam Chatburn-Jones (70) helping the team finish on 350-6.

Rishton were then bowled all out for 110, handing Darwen the dominant win. Rishton finish second bottom.

GREAT HARWOOD also lost as they were handed a seven wicket defeat by Colne via the Duckworth/Lewis method.

Great Harwood were put into bat first after losing the toss, and were bowled all out for 149. Colne’s innings was then reduced due to the weather, but they finished on 144-3 after 30 overs to claim the win. Great Harwood finish in 19th, while Colne end 17th.
