MICHAEL MORRIS

MR Michael Morris, of Accrington, died on Monday, September 10, peacefully surrounded by his loving family at East Lancashire Hospice, aged 76.

Michael worked as a welder at Warwick & Bailey, Accrington all his working MRS Mavis Beech, of Wellfield Care Home, Whalley Road, Accrington, died on Monday, September 10, aged 82.

Mavis was a weaver when she left school, going on to become a supervisor of school meals at St Johns, Accrington, and then cooking for 400 boys at Accrington Grammar School. Mavis was also a landlady at the Royal Oak pub and did catering at Nelson Street Day Care Centre, before retirement.

Mavis enjoyed watching her son play cricket from an early age and watching her grandson play football. She enjoyed hoildays, especially her trips to Cornwall.

Mavis was married to the late Geoffrey and leaves her son Graham, daughter-inlaw Sheila and sisters Margaret and Linda and her grandchild­ren. She was also mother to the late Maureen. seven years and spent time living in Spain before moving back to the local area.

She had worked as a telephonis­t for the GPO and later Baxenden Chemicals.

In her spare time, Audrey enjoyed reading.

Audrey leaves husband Jack, sister Marian and brother-in-law Roy.

The funeral will take place on Monday, September 24 with a service at the Pleasant Street Chapel of Rest in Haslingden, led by the Rev Judith Balkwell at 1.30pm, followed by cremation at Accrington Crematoriu­m.

RONALD SCHOFIELD

MR Ronald Schofield - known as Ronnie - of Devonshire Street, Accrington, died on Thursday, September 13, aged 74.

Ronald was a production worker at Mullards, Simonstone until his retirement, due to ill health.

He was a footballer in his youth for Accrington Stanley and Whinney Hill.

In later years, Ronald enjoyed following sport and watching his grandsons playing both cricket and football.

Ronald leaves his wife Linda, daughter Julie and her partner Mark, son Paul and daughter-in-law Tricia, grandchild­ren Matt and his partner Louise, Harrison and Max, and sister Olive. He had late sister and brother Margaret and Derrick.

The funeral service will take place on Monday, September 24 at 11.40am at Accrington Crematoriu­m, led by Philip Norris.

Family flowers only please, donations to Derian House Children’s Hospice.

MARJORIE MCARTHUR

MARJORIE McArthur (nee Kenyon formerly Cassell) late of York Place, Accrington, died peacefully with her family by her side at Wellfield House residentia­l home on Tuesday, September 11, aged 100.

In January, Marjorie’s family and friends gathered to celebrate her 100th birthday at the Peel Park Hotel where she received many cards, plus a special one from the Queen.

Marjorie was born in Abbey Street, Accrington where her father had a painting and decorating business.

She attended St James School with her sisters Connie and Mabel. In 2004 she was invited to reopen the renovated school, which is now the Act Centre, with Connie and was interviewe­d by Radio Lancashire, reminiscin­g about her school days.

On leaving school, Marjorie went into service and when the war broke out she joined the Land Army. In recognitio­n for this, she was invited to meet the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

She later worked at Accrington Victoria Hospital followed by work at Whittakers in Helmshore and then Highmans textile mill in Accrington as a cutter, before retiring in 1977.

Marjorie enjoyed many holidays at home and abroad with her dearly loved late husband George and loved to spend time enjoying meals and days out with her family.

A special thanks to Nesta, Alison and all the staff at Wellfield for the way they cared for Marjorie, plus the district nurses who came in to treat her, and the carers from Townfield while she was still in her bungalow, also the doctors and staff at the Accrington Pals Medical Centre.

Marjorie was the dearly beloved wife of the late George, mother of Dorothy, Elizabeth, Raymond and Kathleen, and the late George, also dear motherin-law of Keith, Tom and the late David, and cherished grandma of 11 grandchild­ren, 19 greatgrand­children, and two great, great-grandchild­ren, who she loved dearly.

Marjorie’s funeral will depart from Wolstenhol­me’s Funeral Directors on Willows Lane at 12.30pm on Friday, September 28 followed by a celebratio­n of her life at St Augustine’s Church, Huncoat at 1pm, then interment at Accrington Cemetery at 2pm.

ANN SKELLERN

MRS Ann Skellern, of Curlew Close, Oswaldtwis­tle, died at White Ash nursing home, Oswaldtwis­tle on Sunday, September 16, aged 72.

Ann was a housewife and enjoyed tending to the allotment with her mum Doris.

She loved all animals, holidays to Morecambe, car boot sales and bingo.

Ann leaves her husband David, son Paul, granddaugh­ter Aleshia, and sister Patricia. She was sister-in-law to Philip and Anne Marie, auntie to Daniel, Katie, Susan, Gail, Dawn, Pamela and John, and the late Elizabeth and Tony.

The service will take place at Immanuel Parish Church, Oswaldtwis­tle, led by Rev Martin Joss.

Funeral arrangemen­ts to be confirmed.

CHRISTINE KEARNS

CHRISTINE Virginia Kearns nee Taylor, of Wordsworth Road, Accrington, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Saturday, September 15, aged 65.

During her life, Christina has always been a hard worker and worked for various companies over the years including Woodnook Mill and Highams in Accrington as a cutter, also Wills Fabrics in Oswaldtwis­tle, as a care worker at Acorn Lodge Care Home (now known as The Belvedere) and also at Mount Carmel High School as a cleaner.

In her spare time she loved reading and doing crossword puzzles as well as watching TV, especially the soaps such as Corrie, EastEnders, Home & Away and Hawaii Five O, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Christine sadly leaves her dearly loved husband Joseph, her much loved children Michelle, Nicola and Lindsey and her treasured grandchild­ren Liam, Pierce, Jordan, Connor, Paddy and Charlotte.

Christine will be very sadly missed by all her family and friends.

A celebratio­n of life service will be held at 3pm on Tuesday, September 25 at Accrington Crematoriu­m. No black attire needed.

Flowers are welcome or if preferred donations may be given in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

SYBIL GRIMSHAWE

SYBIL Grimshawe née Papworth, died peacefully at home on Thursday, September 13, following a short, debilitati­ng illness, aged 84.

She leaves son Antony, daughter Stephanie, granddaugh­ter Olivia, and sister Janet.

A funeral service will take place at 11am on Tuesday, September 25, at Manchester Road Methodist Church, followed by cremation at 12.20pm at Accrington Crematoriu­m. Family flowers only please, however donations, if desired, to Diabetes UK and R.N.L.I. (Lifeboats).
