Groundhog Day with all these draws!

-

VIEW FROM THE CLAYTON END

I CANNOT believe that I am writing this piece after the fourth 1-1 draw in as many games.

Five times out of six! It’s absolute madness. We could have won every one, so it’s a touch frustrating.

Then again, we could just as easily lost every one so we can’t be too disappointed.

There was a nice number of Stanley fans at Fleetwood.

A trip to the coast isn’t too arduous but it’s still great to be a part of a big number cheering on the team away from home.

Lots of new faces thrown in there too, some getting the words to songs wrong but that’ll come in time. We’ve all been there...

Onto the field and we started so brightly I was excited at the prospect of seeing us get a few goals.

Playing with such freedom we look right at home in League One.

Little was I to know we wouldn’t be able to convert from open play once again. I could scream at times.

The defence is looking a lot more secure than it did in the early part of the season and they dealt with the sustained pressure very resolutely on Saturday when they had to.

The return of Iheakwe shored us up (still feel sorry for Ross on that note but his time will come again).

Anderton didn’t look quite as good as he has done since coming into the side and was flat on his feet in the second half.

He also got caught short giving the ball away at times and nearly cost us another goal.

He’s been fantastic thus far and I thoroughly expect him to bounce back this weekend.

As much as the defence looked capable I think we can all agree the goal was as soft as they come to concede.

After being on top for a large part of the early goings we fell asleep and that hope of a clean sheet goes once again. We cannot keep letting this happen as John has said in last weeks paper, sooner or later we’ll start not finding that equaliser and losing matches.

Our goal comes from a set piece yet again and you can only look at this from either side of the spectrum to remain sane.

We’re really dangerous from all platforms of dead ball and cause teams real issue in the box is the positive way.

Four games without a goal from open play, however, becomes a different story.

Fleetwood’s goalkeeper came out as man of the match and was excellent but we’re so sloppy in front of goal.

Finlay, Clark, Zanzala; none seem to be getting the rub of the green right about now and a few inches here and there tell a different story.

Billy is struggling to lead the line as we need him to.

For whatever reason he’s just not at his best yet and it’s becoming an issue felt throughout the side.

I’d have liked to see Hall introduced at some point as we were pushing for three points.

The young lad looked a right handful against Burton and he’ll be disappointed not to have got the chance to put his stamp on the game.

Coleman is very loyal to his players and at times that may cloud his judgement about making substitutions.

At this level it may cost us points.

We meet Wimbledon on Saturday for the first time since that fateful play-off night. We really must take three points here against a side struggling for form.

Let’s make plenty of noise, get behind the team and get some revenge for a night that could have ended so differently two years ago.
