Sean sure Reds wins will come

‘I’m sure it’s enjoyable to watch but we have to turn draws into wins’

ACCRINGTON Stanley midfielder Sean McConville insists the team will start picking up wins over the next few weeks – after drawing five of their opening eight matches so far this season.

The Reds drew 1-1 at Fleetwood Town on Saturday, meaning they have now drawn their last four matches in a row.

It leaves them in 10th place in the League One table, but McConville is confident that his side is playing well enough to turn those draws into wins in the near future.

“Against Fleetwood was the best we have played this season. No disrespect to Fleetwood, but if we had come off winning that game 6-2 or 6-1 there would be no arguments with the amount of chances we created in the first and second half. We should be winning that game,” he told the club’s official website.

“Their goalkeeper has got Man of the Match and deservedly so, as he has made some great saves, but we have just got to keep battling away and creating chances and eventually they will go in and I know that there will be a team who will be on the end of a hiding from us.

“We are playing great football, it’s enjoyable to play in and I am sure for the fans it’s enjoyable to watch but we have to turn these draws into wins.”

It was McConville who scored Accrington’s equaliser in the game at Highbury, and he was more than happy to contribute.

“I was delighted with the goal as it was a left footer which I am happy about as I score very few of those.

“It was nice, it just fell to me and I hit it across the keeper with my left foot,” he said.

“I was happy for it to go in to get a point for the lads but even the most ardent Fleetwood fan would say we were the better team and we deserved the win.

“As a group at halftime, we were disappointed to concede off a set-play, that’s not good enough, but all the lads were geeing each other up, saying we are the better team, don’t let your heads drop and it will come and it did in the end and that’s what’s been happening.

“But we need to start turning the one point into three and who knows where we can go?

“If we weren’t creating the chances we would be worried but we are creating chance after chance after chance and we have to keep striving to be better, working hard and I am sure things will start turning for us.”

Stanley are back at home this weekend as they welcome AFC Wimbledon to the Wham Stadium.
