ALMA DUCKWORTH
MR Colin Brown, of Accrington, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, September 18, aged 80.
During his lifetime, Colin had worked for various companies over the years as a general labourer until his retirement.
In his younger years he enjoyed riding and tinkering around with motorbikes and then later in life cycling out visiting friends and family.
He also enjoyed building model steam engines and trains.
Colin was a devoted family man, very sociable and loved spending time with family and friends.
Colin was married to the late Dorothy Jean and was brother to the late Victor.
He will be dearly missed by sister Maureen, daughters Caroline, Julie and Linda, sons-in-law Tom and Alan, and grandchildren Carl, Simone, Lien and Jason. He also had greatgrandchildren Chelsie, Connie, Leah, Gracie and MRS Dorothy Lawrenson, of Foxwood Chase, Accrington, sadly died on Monday, September 17, fortified by the rites of Holy Mother Church, aged 77.
Born and raised in Rawtenstall, Dorothy was the eldest sibling to the late Edmund and Nora Wilkinson.
A former pupil at Paddock House Grammar School before starting as a junior school teacher at Heathfield School, she then returned as a junior school teacher at Paddock House.
After marrying her husband, Paul, in June 1968, they moved to live in Accrington.
Dorothy was the NSPCC branch secretary of the Accrington branch for just over 25 years helping to raise thousands of pounds over the years through various events.
Family was always a big part of Dorothy’s life and she liked nothing more than spending family holidays together during the school holidays, and later in life, she enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren.
Dorothy leaves her husband Paul, children Donna Maria, Claire Louise, and Matthew, son-in-law Steve, daughter-in-law Lisa, and her three grandchildren George, Henry and James, along with her brothers Billy and Bernard Wilkinson.
A Requiem Mass will be held on Tuesday, October 2 at St Joseph’s RC Church, Accrington, at 10am, followed by a burial at Accrington Cemetery, officiated by Father Stamp and Father Lupton.

Funeral director: Peter Regan, Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queens Road, Accrington. ALMA Duckworth, formerly of Peronne Crescent, Blackburn, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 18, at Old Gates Nursing Home in Blackburn, aged 89.
Throughout her life, Alma worked for various companies, these included Marks & Spencer at Scarborough in the early days, as well as Marks & Spencer in Accrington, Woolworths in Accrington, Relay Vision and also Highams.
Alma was a dearly loved wife of Geoffrey, a much loved mother of Sharon and Barry, a dear mother-in-law of Steve and Linda, a treasured grandma of Martin, Sue, Ashley and Sarah and a cherished great-grandma of Connor, Murron, Ella and Bobby.
She will be very sadly missed by all her family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 3pm on Tuesday, October 2 at Accrington Crematorium.

CARLTON WOOD
MR Carlton Wood, of Clayton-le-Moors, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, September 23, aged 67.
He was the devoted and much loved partner of Christine, loving dad of Lisa, Carlton and the late Kirk, cherished grandad of Cody-Marie and dear brother of the late Clive.
A well known local character, ‘Woody’ was known for his warm and caring personality.
Carlton was a hard working man who spent his life working as a self-employed plasterer and builder.
When not working, Carlton could often be found at the Lamb Inn with his friends enjoying a drink, he loved to sing and would entertain everyone with his fantastic singing voice.
A true family man, he was at his happiest when all of his family were gathered together.
His funeral service and cremation will be held at Accrington Crematorium on Friday, September 28 at 11.40am.
Flowers are welcome and may be sent to the Chapel of Rest.

JOHN ROBERTS
MR John (Jack) Roberts, of Abbeywood Lodge, Ormskirk, and formerly of Haslingden and Baxenden, died on Wednesday, September 19, at Southport and Formby Hospital, aged 83.
Husband of the late Hazel, he leaves his son David, daughter-in-law Jennifer, grandchildren Beth, Ella, Adam, Lauren and Charlotte, cousin Thelma, sister-in-law Margaret and brother-inlaw Jim.
Jack worked as a construction manager for Townsend of Bolton for many years.
In his youth, he was a member of The Church Lads Brigade, and played football for St James Parish Church, Haslingden.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 2, with service and cremation at Accrington Crematorium at 1.40pm, officiated by the Rev Stephen Brown.

DENNIS THOMPSON
MR Dennis (Hugh) Thompson, of Clayton-le- Moors, died peacefully in hospital on Tuesday, September 25, aged 75.
He was the devoted husband of the late Pat, loving dad of Vicky, Mark and the late Andrew, and cherished grandad of Katie and great-grandad of Bobby.
Dennis lived all his life in Clayton-le-Moors and was a well known face in the local community.
He worked as a service engineer for Hobart Catering Equipment for 40 years.
Dennis devoted his whole life to caring for his beloved daughter Vicky at home and in recent years spent many hours each day visiting and caring for her at Rough Lee.
Dennis will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
The funeral service will be held in St Mary’s RC Church, Clayton-leMoors, on Monday, October 1, at 11.30am, followed by committal at Accrington Crematorium.
