ROTARY CLUB OF CHURCH AND OSWALDTWISTLE

-

OSWALDTWISTLE LIBRARY

A LARGE audience gathered at the Oswaldtwislte library to be entertained by a very professional junior school choir from Hipping Methodist School.

Smiling faces, singing their little hearts out and a credit to their teachers.

This was followed by Darwen Adult Choir, whose conductor introduced each song sung with a chat about the origin etc.

The choir is an amalgamation of members of the Darwen Food Bank Choir and Darwen Library Choir, presenting a very varied range of excellent choral music.

The whole afternoon was a great success and The Oswaldtwistle Library Friends would like to thank all who attended and especially to the children and adults who put everyone in the Christmas mood.

As visitors left the library they were greeted by the Christmas lights on the tree in the garden and across the road on the street lights and Oswaldtwistle Christmas tree and crib.

Thank you to the council work men who have done a great job.

The Friends of Oswaldtwistle Library wish to thank the public for their support and hope they will continue in 2019, when we will be hosting varied events.

Happy, healthy Christmas to all and Best Wishes for the New Year.

All events will be advertised on Facebook on Oswaldtwistle Library Friends Group and also in the library. CHURCH and Oswaldtwistle Rotary, over the years, have been very much involved with DASH ie. Disabled Association for Sports in Hyndburn, where adults and young people with mental and physical disabilities meet up fortnightly at the New Era premises in Accrington.

This organisation provides a safe environment for members to socialise and take part in sporting activities and crafts: snooker, pool, table tennis and crafts.

Two years ago Jim Hargreaves, the then President of Church and Oswaldtwistle Rotary, presented John McKenna with £600 which was to provide funds for new equipment, including a snooker table and trophy which would be presented to the champion DASH snooker player of the year.

This year, as in previous years, Rotarians where present to take part in the annual Christmas party which was attended by 22 DASH members and their carers together with volunteers.

A buffet prepared by Rotarian Maureen Hartley rounded off a successful evening.

The event was concluded with games and dancing.

For many years Alice Horne, when she was alive, was an active DASH member and together with Rotarians a fortnightly rota was organised, so DASH members could be transported to and from Great Harwood baths. This continued when Alice was well in her nineties.

President Lyndon and his wife Cath were in attendance throughout the evening and presented the winning prizes.

Lyndon said: “We are honoured to be invited once again to present these awards and to join in the games and dancing at the DASH Christmas party.

“DASH is a very worthwhile charity offering a much-needed service to vulnerable people and their carers, presenting the opportunity to socialise and have fun.

“It also allows them to partake in a range of crafts and a variety of sports. We are delighted to support them as much as we can.

“Cath and I have had a great time this evening.

“John and his Team are to be applauded for their selfless input to this very worthwhile project.”
