FRANK KNOWLES

-

FORMER dental technician Mr Frank Knowles, of Woodside Road, Huncoat, died at home on Tuesday, January 22, aged 90.

Frank served as an airtime technician in the RAF, servicing Spitfires and Mosquitos. During this time he sailed on the aircraft carrier HMS Ocean to the Far East via Egypt and the Suez Canal, stopping off at Malta, Aden and Ceylon on the way and flying home via Iraq.

Frank started his working life as a Dental Technician at Accrington Road Dental Practice, Burnley, owned by Kenneth Stavely. Subsequently he worked for John Hyde and Chris Wood – ‘Hyde and Wood’ at the Standish Street Burnley Practice.

Frank was a very practical person and throughout his married life of 58 years could mend or fix anything. He loved motoring, enjoyed an open coal fire in the winter months and especially enjoyed his holidays in France, Stratford-uponAvon, Bournemouth and Crete.

He was a fantastic husband and father, taking great care of his wife Winifred and daughter Janine. When Janine played in the Burnley Alliance Band, Frank was the concert secretary – organising venues where the band would play.

He was the husband of Winifred, father of Janine, father-in-law of Philip, brother-in-law of Florence and John, and uncle to Richard, Alan, Janet, Sue, David and Jim.

A service and cremation will take place at 2.20pm on Thursday, February 7, at Accrington Crematorium, officiated by the Rev. Rick Ormrod, followed by cremation.

Family flowers only, however, donations, if desired, suggested to Help For Heroes.
