£25,000 could be in the bag for dementia plans

-

MY Colourful Memories C.I.C has been awarded a place in the regional Tesco Bags of Help Centenary Grant Scheme.

The Oswaldtwistlebased ‘Not for Profit’ company was one of hundreds of charities and community groups that applied from across the region with only a few being shortlisted.

The special centenary grant will allow customers to vote for three community groups in Tesco stores throughout the whole of Lancashire and Cumbria.

Votes are made using blue tokens which are given to customers at the checkout and the community group which receives the most votes will be awarded £25,000.

Neil Floyd, managing director of My Colourful Memories C.I.C, said: “Our group was informed about the grant by Alison Redmond the Accrington Store Community Champion in April.

“We applied knowing that there would be a lot of competition from larger groups and charities.

“The dementia art health training project which we are going to roll out across Lancashire and Cumbria is going to make a massive impact. The training will support hundreds of carers, families and healthcare professionals who support people who live with dementia.”

Richard Collier, Accrington Tesco store manager, said: ““I am delighted that My Colourful Memories local charity dementia group has been chosen as one of three finalists, with support from our loyal Tesco Accrington customers.

“It’s a fabulous achievement as the geographical area voted covers all of Lancashire and Cumbria and highlights how important this charity is to our communities.”

A community event will be held at the Accrington Tesco store on Saturday, July 6 and My Colourful Memories C.I.C will provide free colouring pictures for children, games and prizes.
