Sports hub sign attacked by vandals
RECKLESS vandals have destroyed the new sports hub sign at Higham Playing Fields.
Accrington Stanley Community Trust (ASCT) reported on social media that they spent £2,240 installing the sign at the Accrington site after the lease was signed over to them for the new sports hub.
However since the
developers moved onto the site they have been faced with thoughtless acts of ‘constant’ vandalism - the latest being damage to the sign.
First reported on Monday, June 24, this incident will now cost the ASCT, a registered charity, additional funds to mend.
Earlier this month the Observer reported how security fencing at the site - which is in place to keep children away from danger - was vandalised.
Martin Fearon, chief executive of ASCT , said: “We have encountered another act of criminal damage and vandalism at the new Sports Hub site at Higham Playing Fields.
“Our new development signage has been sprayed with black paint and it now looks a complete mess. This will now cost our Charity additional funds to put it back to its normal state.
“This follows on from vandalism of site security fencing a couple of weeks ago. We would like to urge the local residents to contact us if you have any information on who was involved with the criminal damage and vandalism.”
The charity has reported the incident to police and hopes to track down the culprits.
Martin continued: “We are in dialogue with the local police and patrols of the area will be stepped up. There are also plans for additional CCTV of the site during the construction phase.
“We are a local charity that engages with over 17,000 local people each year across 30 different projects, many of which are free to the user.
“We find it appalling that a minority of people are causing criminal damage and vandalism to a local Charity’s property.”
Lancashire Police have been contacted for comment on this incident.
