THE Hyndburn branch of the Lancashire Family History and Heraldry Society had a very interesting talk last month by Linda Sawley on Elizabeth Parker of Browsholme Hall.

The talk was well attended and everybody enjoyed it immensely.

This month we are having a talk by Denise North entitled, ‘Bene and Hot the Tommies’ Tipple, from Palais Benedictine to Plumbe Street Burnley’.

Denise has said that it is a visit to two very different places with an intriguing connection so the only way to find out about the mystery is to come along and join us on Thursday, July 11, 7.30pm at Accrington and District Blind Society, Bank Street Accrington BB5 1HP.

Everybody is welcome, the event is free and any donations will be gratefully received and refreshments will be available after the 16 members braved the rain to attend the June meeting held at a member’s allotment.

They were able to learn not just about bonsai but also bee keeping.

The club held two one-day workshops during the month when popular bonsai expert John Armitage gave help and advice, which he had gained over many years.

We finished the month with one of our extra meetings which was also well attended.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday, July 9, at Hipping Vale, Harvey Street, Oswaldtwistle, starting at 7-30pm.

This will be another popular bonsai auction with trees, pots and tools for sale. Come early to view the items and get a good seat.

This will be our last
