Stand by for new signings

-

ACCRINGTON Stanley manager John Coleman has promised supporters that there will be a ‘flurry of signings’ in the next two weeks.

Coleman is looking to bolster his Accrington side as they attempt to build on their 14th placed finish during the latest League One campaign.

So far Joe Pritchard has arrived at the Wham Stadium from Bolton Wanderers, but Coleman expects there to be plenty more new arrivals in the coming weeks.

“I do expect there to be a flurry of signings to come in the next two weeks, we are looking at players and hope to have them in place soon,” he told the club’s official website.

“We want to get the right ones though and not rush things. We have one or two irons in the fire for the goalkeeper position

especially.” The goalkeeping position is one that Coleman is keen to strengthen as soon as possible, due to Jonny Maxted recently leaving the club to join Exeter City.

Coleman said: “Jonny did really well for us. He was adamant he wanted first team football and we couldn’t stand in his way.

“We wish him all the best and we hope his career continues to flourish.” Maxted added: “I have some great memories from being at Accrington, I was excited to be bought after my FA Cup performances and being here when we won League Two was special.

“I want to thank the fans for their support during my 18 months at Accrington and I will be keeping in touch with my Stanley teammates.

“The move to Exeter came at the right time as it’s a fresh start as I am searching for regular first team football. I hope I can cement my place in the Exeter team.”

Maxted isn’t the only player to have departed Stanley over the past week, as Piero Mingoia also left the club last week, departing by mutual consent before then signing for non-league side Boreham Wood.

Mingoia made 155 appearances for Stanley during three spells at the club, and Coleman praised the midfielder for his efforts.

Coleman said: “We are sorry to see Piero go. He has always been a model professional but his chances have been limited with the form of Sean McConville and Jordan Clark. We wish him all the best for the future.”

Mingoia added: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to the fans and everybody at the club. Unfortunately, last season didn’t work out for me and I’ve now had to make the best decision for me which was to leave the club in search of regular playing time.

“Life decisions also come into it, but the key reason for my departure is my desire to play regular football.

“It has all ended calmly, and it is a decision that I have come to completely by myself.”
