Battle-ready Reds put through paces
ACHANCE meeting and conversation whilst on holiday between the Regimental Sergeant Major of 1 Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps and the manager of Accrington Stanley Football Club, John Coleman has led to a spell of special training between the club and the regiment.
Accrington Stanley were invited along to the home of 1RLC, St David’s Barracks in Bicester for a few days to undertake some mutually beneficial training sessions with the Royal Logistic Corps soldiers.
The soldiers would get some top class sports training, with the Regiment’s team getting to play a match against League One opposition.
In return Accrington Stanley’s players got a taste of some British Army battle physical fitness training, and how to bond
better with fellow players and become a cohesive team unit.
Speaking of his players’ experiences, Accrington Stanley Manager, John Coleman said: “We’ve been getting a lot of physical fitness, but also a lot of teamwork and decision making skills – a lot of drills we wouldn’t normally get as a football team”.
1 Regiment RLC’s Physical Training Instructors took both the Accrington Stanley players and their soldiers through a Battle PT session out on the training fields in which the Stanley lads had to carry their soldier counterparts over a course as though they were a battle casualty.
The session finished with a fun game of trying to knock down your opponent whilst in the pressup position; something that really did bring out the competitive spirit!
