Mystery goings on at the golf club – it’s murder

-

A MURDER mystery evening has been organised at Baxenden Golf Club.

A team of actors will play out the events leading up to the murder and there will be prizes for the team who can guess ‘who done it’.

The event will include a potato pie supper, or vegetarian option, and all proceeds will go towards St John’s Church dry rot fund.

Joyce Teasdale, of the church, said: “Recently there has been an outbreak of dry rot at the church which cost £6,500 to remove and treat and storm damage to the roof and lead theft from the roof.

“There is also work needed to repoint a large section of the walls to prevent water coming into the building.

“Churches are not rich and we need to fund raise to cover the costs.”

It will take place on Friday, July 26, from 7pm.

Tickets cost £10 from the golf club or by calling Joyce on 07988 391180. SPORTS sessions have been organised over the summer holidays for youngsters in a bid to reduce anti-social behaviour across the borough.

Accrington Stanley Community Trust (ASCT) will run the ‘Summer Kicks’ sessions for 11 to 17 year olds at five different venues in Hyndburn.

Organisers say they aim to offer ‘positive activities’ for young people to get involved with during the evening and reduce anti-social behaviour over the six-week break.

The sessions will also break down barriers between young people and the police as well as offering further support to individuals in relation to substance abuse and community cohesion.

Lee Walsh, head of sport at ASCT, said: “We regularly hear that young people have nothing to do and we hope this will help address that.

“We would like to thank Earl Transport for the generous donation of £800 to ensure this project goes ahead. Thanks also goes to LANPAC for also donating £800 to ensure this is a success.”

The sessions will be held from 6pm to 8pm at Hyndburn Park MUGA in Accrington on Tuesday’s, Mercer Park in Claytonle-Moors on Wednesdays and Tow Hall Street MUGA in Great Harwood on Thursdays.

On Fridays there will be sessions at Hyndburn Leisure Centre between 6pm and 7pm and New Era from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
