Football Finalists

TWO finalists from a school football competition feature in Looking Back this week.

Moorhead High School won the Hyndburn Senior Schools’ Soccer Cup after they defeated St Christopher’s 2-1 in an entertaining match at Great Harwood’s ground in 1978.

The winning team (pictured top left) feature (back row left to right) R Tarbuck, A Stevenson, C Walker, D Roberts, D Jackson, S Rose (front row) K Starkie, S Greenhalgh, R Liversedge, W Ramsbottom and A Clark.

The St Christopher’s team (pictured above) included (back row left to right) M Chippendale, J Young, M Aspin, S Hargreaves, M Bolton, D Johnson (front row) P Woodhouse, D Whalley, K Macron, A Gardener and A Purvin.

Hyndburn Model Railway Group held their ninth annual exhibition at Accrington Town Hall and featured a scale replica of Helmshore station.

Our centre right photo shows award-winning apprentices Simon Brown and Stephen Hartlebury, who were pictured in the Observer with engine designer Alan Sutcliffe at an awards ceremony in Accrington and Rossendale College engineering annexe.

Our final photo this week (bottom right) shows how more than 50 awards were gained at the UKA examinations and were awarded to pupils of the Royal Dance Club in Clayton-le-Moors.

Principal Donald Knight presented the awards in front of parents and friends.
