APACKED programme of events will bring fun and excitement to the heart of Accrington.

The new town square is set to host Amazing Accrington’s Big Weekend this August Bank Holiday, from Friday, August 23 to Sunday, August 25.

The weekend kicks off with ‘Accrington’s Biggest Quiz’, a fun family interactive quiz which is open to all.

On Saturday afternoon the square will host a ‘Pop Party’, featuring free live music, fairground rides and community stalls.

The Biggest Weekend will end spectacularly on Sunday with a ‘Fantastical Forest Parade,’ a colourful and lively procession of giant puppets, including a fifteen foot Oaken Giant, all complete with handmade props, parading though the town in a spectacle of music and dance.

The puppets and props will be made in a series of local workshops running up to the weekend which are open to anyone who wants to make costumes, parade art or help create a giant puppet.

Council Leader Miles Parkinson OBE said; “We’re looking forward to Amazing Accrington’s Biggest Weekend, a packed weekend of fun and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy the August Bank Holiday.

“It’s part of the programme of events for Accrington’s Town Square and everyone is welcome, come and be part of it.
