Man pushed his partner off bed and punched her

-

A DRUNK man who pushed his partner off the bed before punching her twice to the face has been given a restraining order.

Steven Aldren and the victim had been drinking lager at her home on Hood Street in Accrington on February 2 when they got into an argument, a court heard.

Prosecutor Enza Geldard told Blackburn Magistrates Court that Aldren ‘pushed her off believing she would strike him’ which caused injury to her neck.

The 43-year-old defendant then punched her twice to the face causing injuries to her mouth and nose.

In an agreed basis of plea statement, Aldren said: “This obviously went beyond selfdefence.”

Ms Geldard said it is not known if the victim sought any medical treatment or how the injuries have affected her. Aldren, now of Hollin Lane, Bury, pleaded guilty on the day of trial to ABH.

Defence barrister Peter King said there is ‘little risk of re-offending’ in the future.

He said: “The relationship is over. It’s not a case that there may be reconciliation in the future.

“They have no children together. There’s no prospect of him needing to contact her and there’s no objection to a restraining order.”

Magistrates sentenced Aldren to an 18-month community order with a 25-day programme requirement, a 40-day rehabilitation activity requirement and a residence requirement.

He was also ordered to pay £150 compensation and £150 costs and made subject to a 12-month restraining order.

Sentencing, the chair of the bench said: “You are very lucky you are not going to receive a custodial sentence for that.

“There was a lack of premeditation but we recognise this was done in drink which increases the seriousness and also in a domestic setting, the victim’s home.”
