Duo’s volunteers event proves big hit at Adventure
DOZENS of people have attended a volunteering partnership event with Hyndburn and Ribble Valley CVS and Lancashire Adult Learning.
Held at Adventure Hyndburn, it highlighted the work of both organisations in the local volunteering sector and what is happening in the wider volunteering community.
Visitors attending also had the opportunity to find out more about grant funding, charity and group support and volunteer training, as well as a ‘have a go’ at a range of free LAL volunteer training activities including first aid, health awareness, singing for happiness, the five ways to wellbeing, ICT and family learning.
Bosses say Lancashire Adult Learning’s volunteering programmes have a ‘lasting effect’ on the communities in which they are delivered, with 70pc of learners on programmes continuing to volunteer in their own communities after completing their course.
Nicola Hall, head of adult and community learning, said: “Our partnership event with Hyndburn and Ribble Valley CVS was extremely successful and it gave LAL the opportunity to develop our relationship with them as well at network with new and existing partners including Carers Link, Age UK, Lancashire Volunteer Partnership, Homestart, Foundation for Ribble Valley Families, Lancashire County Council, Lancashire Police and NHS.
“The event also provided the opportunity to highlight our community development courses including singing for health and happiness, get into volunteering and dementia friends.
“Advice and guidance was also offered to visitors for courses at Lancashire Adult Learning and at Accrington and Rossendale College in and around the Hyndburn area.”
Elaine Barker, from Hyndburn and Ribble Valley CVS, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Lancashire Adult Learning in order to provide learning opportunities for volunteers within the local communities.
“Hyndburn and Ribble Valley CVS can support volunteering opportunities for members of the community who have time to give back and can broker placements for the local voluntary organisations to support growing our community activities to best serve our local population.”
