Duo’s volunteers event proves big hit at Adventure

DOZENS of people have attended a volunteeri­ng partnershi­p event with Hyndburn and Ribble Valley CVS and Lancashire Adult Learning.

Held at Adventure Hyndburn, it highlighte­d the work of both organisati­ons in the local volunteeri­ng sector and what is happening in the wider volunteeri­ng community.

Visitors attending also had the opportunit­y to find out more about grant funding, charity and group support and volunteer training, as well as a ‘have a go’ at a range of free LAL volunteer training activities including first aid, health awareness, singing for happiness, the five ways to wellbeing, ICT and family learning.

Bosses say Lancashire Adult Learning’s volunteeri­ng programmes have a ‘lasting effect’ on the communitie­s in which they are delivered, with 70pc of learners on programmes continuing to volunteer in their own communitie­s after completing their course.

Nicola Hall, head of adult and community learning, said: “Our partnershi­p event with Hyndburn and Ribble Valley CVS was extremely successful and it gave LAL the opportunit­y to develop our relationsh­ip with them as well at network with new and existing partners including Carers Link, Age UK, Lancashire Volunteer Partnershi­p, Homestart, Foundation for Ribble Valley Families, Lancashire County Council, Lancashire Police and NHS.

“The event also provided the opportunit­y to highlight our community developmen­t courses including singing for health and happiness, get into volunteeri­ng and dementia friends.

“Advice and guidance was also offered to visitors for courses at Lancashire Adult Learning and at Accrington and Rossendale College in and around the Hyndburn area.”

Elaine Barker, from Hyndburn and Ribble Valley CVS, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnershi­p with Lancashire Adult Learning in order to provide learning opportunit­ies for volunteers within the local communitie­s.

“Hyndburn and Ribble Valley CVS can support volunteeri­ng opportunit­ies for members of the community who have time to give back and can broker placements for the local voluntary organisati­ons to support growing our community activities to best serve our local population.”
