Coroner’s plea after man was found hanged

- JON MACPHERSON

AN estate agent was found hanged in a back garden after ‘struggling with finances and living back at home’, an inquest heard.

Radoslaw Kopacki, known as Radi, was last seen alive by his father Robert at their home on Wellington Street in Accrington at 10.30pm on June 3.

Preston Coroners Court was told that they had been ‘talking about different things’ and ‘having a laugh’ and when his father retired to bed Radi said ‘I will see you tomorrow’.

The 25-year-old was found hanged in the back garden the next morning at around 6am, the inquest heard.

A post-mortem examination from Dr Sue Kearney showed Radi died from hanging.

A statement from his sister Paulina Kopacki said Radi had moved in with his father in December 2018 after previously living in Bermondsey in London.

The inquest heard that he ‘appeared to be making a good living’ as an estate agent but there had been a time when his ‘mental health was up and down’.

Ms Kopacki said Radi had previously been prescribed antidepressants from his GP in London and when she last saw him a week before his death he ‘appeared to be in good spirits’.

A ‘lengthy’ suicide note was found on an iPad where he apologised to his family and friends and said he had been ‘struggling with finances and living back at home’.

Coroner James Newman said Radi had ‘very little involvement’ with his GP and was last seen for mental health issues in April 2017.

Recording a conclusion of suicide, he said: “There are only very few references to mental health issues and no thoughts of self-harm or suicide.

“This is the tragic loss of another young man.

“There’s clearly no references of anybody having any significant concerns in the days or weeks prior to his death.

“I would ask any person who is suffering anxiety and stresses such that they are thinking about taking their own life that they talk to someone.”
