Predatory pervert is jailed for 9 years

- JON MACPHERSON

A‘PREDATORY paedophile’ who had sex with an underage girl and tried to ‘manipulate’ one of her friends to have sex with him in a car park has been jailed for nine years.

Ryan Andrew Ramsbottom approached the first victim in Accrington and asked if she would like to have sex with him’, a court heard.

The next day the pub doorman, from Rishton, asked to meet her before driving to a ‘ quiet local spot’ and ‘flattered her by saying she was beautiful’, Preston Crown Court was told.

Prosecutor Amanda Johnson said the 32-yearold again asked to have sex with her and when she said no he took hold of her hand and threatened he would say ‘that she had

tried it on with him’.

The court heard how the victim was ‘effectively forced’ to perform a sex act upon him and afterwards Ramsbottom said he would deny it if she reported it to the police.

Ms Johnson said the defendant also told the victim that if he contacted her in the future and asked for sex ‘she must agree to it so that it didn’t look like he was forcing her’.

Ramsbottom later told the victim that if she got one of her friends to have sex with him ‘he would leave her alone’.

When he contacted her in Accrington a friend, who had been drinking, agreed to have sex with him to stop him harassing her.

The court heard how both girls went to the nearby car park and the friend got into the vehicle.

Ramsbottom then kissed her and sexually touched her ‘all over her body’ before she left, the court was told.

Ms Johnson said ‘despite that he did not let matters drop’ and on another occasion told the first victim to put on a pair of knickers.

When she refused Ramsbottom wrapped the knickers around her neck and put them in her mouth before having sex with her.

Ms Johnson said both girls later reported the sexual assaults to teachers who then reported it to police.

When interviewed, Ramsbottom ‘flatly denied any sexual activity’ with the girls and told officers that at time of the incidents he was working in either Clitheroe or Colne.

The defendant’s movements were later tracked using his mobile phone and his DNA was also found on a pair of knickers.

Ramsbottom, of Oak Close, Rishton, pleaded guilty on the day of trial to sexual activity with two under age girls.

The court heard that the defendant had previously been convicted for sex offences in 2002 when he was a 14-year-old.

Judge Philip Parry said both victims ‘still suffer hugely’ and that the defendant’s account was a ‘tissue of lies’.

Sentencing, he said: “You are Ryan Ramsbottom, in my judgement, a predatory paedophile.

“You are unwilling to accept that you have a sexual attraction to teenage girls.

“Your pre-sentence report makes for very worrying reading.

“You have sought at every opportunity to minimise your responsibility and culpability for your sexual offending, cruelly assassinating the character of each girl to avoid facing up to what you did.

“You have, I’m quite sure, a deviant sexual attraction to teenage girls.

“There plainly is a high risk of you committing further offences.

“But I am persuaded by [defence barrister Shirlie Duckworth’s] argument that the criteria for passing an extended sentence is not met because of other protective factors which are in place and will be in place following the sentence that I now pass.

“I see no mitigating features, no remorse and frankly no redeeming qualities so far as your concerned.”

Ramsbottom was jailed for nine years and given a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.

He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.
