Cricket stars

FORMER Lancashire skipper David Lloyd brought along a galaxy of international Test stars to take on Accrington Cricket Club in his benefit match in the late 1970s.

And it was Lloyd himself who stole the limelight, punishing the Accrington bowling for 88 out of his side’s total of 136 for five. The picture at the top left of the page shows Lloyd shaking hands with Accrington captain Peter West and watched by other players in his benefit game.

The Ernest Street team won a close and thrilling final over New Church in the Accrington and District Badminton League’s Handicap Cup at Hyndburn Sports Centre.

The winning team (pictured top right) included Beryl Taylor, Hayley Meredith, Gillian Ashworth, Marilyn Briggs, Geoff Briggs, Geoff Taylor, Geoff Briggs Jnr and Paul Tabiner.

The new Church team (pictured right) included Deborah Walton, Susan Eland, Carole Peel, Nan Healey, Peter Webster, Roger Livesey, Michael Webster and Roy Breare.

The bottom right photograph shows youngsters from the Rowallan and McLean Cub packs at the presentation of the Elsie Barlow trophy at All Saints in Clayton-leMoors.

It includes (back row) Graeme Boyden, Poovan Naidoo, Paul Hand, Martin McCracken, Simon Hawkins and Neil Crook, (front row) Graeme Taylor, Ian Jones, Jason Prestage and Ian Tansey.

Our final photograph this week shows Dianne Gledhill and Barbara Hogan entertaining some of the children at an Easter party organised by the Accrington OneParent Family Association held at the Golden Age Club on Avenue Parade.

Organised by secretary John Tattersall, the party was attended by 47 children and were supervised by 25 members.
