Coley far from impressed with first outing

ACCRINGTON Stanley manager John Coleman slammed his side for their opening day defeat to Lincoln City - insisting they were far from good enough.

Michael O’Connor and John Akinde scored the goals for Lincoln to ensure Accrington came up short in their first match of the 2019/20 League One campaign.

Coleman wasn’t pleased with what he saw from his team, and felt that Lincoln more than deserved the victory due to his side’s lack of performance.

“I don’t think we were anywhere near the levels that we should be at. I’ve got no complaints with the result as Lincoln were the better team on the day,” he told the club’s official website.

“They has six good chances and our goalkeeper has made six really good saves.

“We’ve had four chances and their goalkeeper has made two good saves, and on the balance of that, they deserved to win and I think they looked a little more dynamic in the final third than us.

“That’s ultimately what you’ve got to be if you’re going to win games.

“I thought we were fortunate to get away with one earlier on, but the penalty that’s been given is never a penalty.

“You can’t complain about that because you’ve got to look at how you perform, today we weren’t at the levels that we should be.”

Due to the nature of his team’s defeat, Coleman also added that he thinks he’ll have to re-visit the transfer market to make another addition before the window shuts later this month.

He said: “I think I’m going to have to bring in another forward, that’s for sure.

“It’s not about bringing in one for the sake of it, they’ve got to be right.”
