School swap for pupils

-

BUILDING work at a secondary school has ‘continued at pace’ over the summer holidays as bosses welcomed pupils back for the start of term.

Rhyddings Business and Enterprise School in Oswaldtwistle is closed for entire 2019/20 academic year with all 570 pupils now working from Hameldon Community College.

Headteacher Andrew Williams said ‘real progress is being made with the rebuild at Rhyddings’ and hailed the success of the move to Burnley.

He said: “We couldn’t be more pleased to be welcoming everyone back and taking advantage of the learning opportunities in these great facilities.

“The recent move to Hameldon Community College went really well.

“The facilities are great and the pupils adapted to their new school superbly.

“We are proud of them and we look forward to welcoming our new intake.”

A rebuild of specialist science accommodation, some general teaching areas, dining and kitchen facilities is ongoing at Rhyddings.

County Councillor Phillippa Williamson, cabinet member for children, young people and schools, said they are ‘really pleased with how well the temporary move to Hameldon Community College went’.

She said: ““Educating pupils at Hameldon Community College is a really practical solution as it gives them extra stability and allows them to also focus entirely on their education.

“The start of the new term is looking very positive.

“The county council will continue to work closely and we will do all we can to help the school.”
