Bishop’s back with a goalscoring bang

-

ACCRINGTON Stanley striker Colby Bishop was delighted to mark his return with a bang after he scored in his side’s 1-0 victory over Southend United on Saturday.

Bishop had suffered an injury in the match against Wycombe Wanderers last month, meaning he missed the game against Blackpool, but he returned from his absence in style over the weekend as he netted the winning goal to help his side overcome Southend at Roots Hall.

It was an important win for Stanley, especially due to their ability to keep a clean sheet, and Bishop was extremely pleased with what his side produced in the match.

“It’s good to get back, we didn’t know if it was going to be okay but I trained the day before the match and it felt okay. There was a little bit of pain from the game but it’s all worth it when you come away and win 1-0,” he told the club’s official website.

“You’ve just got to play through it and it was worth it on Saturday. It’s always worth it but especially on Saturday as we needed that clean sheet and that win away and we’ve got it.

“I didn’t have to do much for the goal did I, it’s great play by the boys. Sam Finley was brilliant and he’s popping it around, and Jerome Opoku put it on a plate for me, and you can’t miss them.

“Dimitar Evtimov has wanted this clean sheet for a long time too. We’ve been unlucky as we’ve had penalties that were a bit dubious and chances that have ricocheted off people, but we’ve been working hard for it as a team. We’re so glad to get it now and hopefully we can get quite a few.

“There’s no easy games, every team’s a good team. It’s hard to come away but the performance that we had on Saturday epitomises what you want to do when you go away.

“We went 1-0 up, maybe should have had a couple more goals but we’ve kept it out and that’s what you want, three points.”
