MRS Grace Davenport died at Blackburn Royal Hospital on Thursday, October 3, aged 90.

She was mother to Eric Bannister and Hilary Middleton, mother-in-law to Val and Ray, nan to Francis and Michaela and a great-nan to Owen.

The funeral will take place on Friday, October 18, at 1.40pm at Accrington Crematoriu­m, conducted by Angela Riding.

JOAN LAW

MRS Joan Law, of Lancaster Street, Oswaldtwis­tle, died on Monday, September 30, at Royal Blackburn Hospital, aged 83.

Joan worked at the Sew & Sew weaving mill in Oswaldtwis­tle both on the factory floor and as a bookkeeper. After having her children she also had part time jobs at Moor End Primary School looking after the children, Hargreaves House as an assistant cook, and at Lancashire County Council as a home help before taking early retirement.

She was a member of Stanhill Methodist Church, James Street Club, Oswaldtwis­tle Conservati­ve Club and Audley working men’s club.

Joan loved singing, ballroom dancing, watching musicals, poetry and knitting. She also enjoyed many family holidays and Mediterran­ean cruises with her husband Bill to whom she was happily married for 62 years.

Dearly loved wife of Bill, she was mother to Cheryl, mother-in-law of Marcus, sister-in-law of Neil and mother to the late Graham.

A funeral service will take place at 1pm on Friday, October 11 at Accrington Crematoriu­m, administer­ed by Rev Rick Ormrod.

WILLIAM WHALLEY

MR William Whalley, of Queens Drive, Oswaldtwis­tle, died at Royal Blackburn Hospital on Tuesday, October 1, aged 77.

He was a HGV garage owner and mechanic.

In his spare time he enjoyed history and vintage wagons, motor cycles and cars.

Husband to the late Sheila, he was father to Paul, grandfathe­r to Scarlet and brother of Fred, Virginia, Marion and the late Charlie.

A funeral service will take place on Monday, October 14, at Accrington Crematoriu­m, at 2.20pm, conducted by the minister Ken Howels.

MAUREEN WHITTAKER

MAUREEN Whittaker, of Percy Street, West End, Oswaldtwis­tle, passed away in East Lancs Hospice on Monday, September 30, aged 82.

Maureen left school and started her working life at Enfield Mill as weaver.

Following on from this she became a shop assistant at Woolworths for 16 years until her retirement.

Upon her retirement she worked at Oswaldtwis­tle Mills in a part time position for five years.

In Maureen’s spare time she loved nothing more than having days out and spending time with her family.

She enjoyed knitting and also dancing.

Maureen was a much loved mum to her three children Trevor, Michelle and Gareth, a loving grandma and greatgrand­ma.

Maureen’s funeral service will be held at Accrington Crematoriu­m on Friday, October 11 at 11.40am.

The service will be conducted by Mr David S Thomas (Life Celebrant).

DEREK INGHAM

MR Derek Salisbury Ingham, of Accrington, died on Sunday, September 29, aged 77.

Derek was a company managing director and the original inventor of Steak Canadian.

He initially ran this from his butchers shop in Accrington and later moved his business to Oswaldtwis­tle.

He had many happy times of spending time with his family sailing his boat on Lake Windermere.

He enjoyed walking his Welsh Terrier Archie.

He was a very sociable man who loved life.

Derek enjoyed spending his time with his late wife Anne who passed away in May this year.

He was father to Debbie and Tracey Blanc and grandfathe­r to Gracie Blanc. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 8 at Accrington Crematoriu­m.

Funeral director: Hyndburn Funeral Services, Queens Road, Accrington. ELIZABETH Dennett, known as Betty, of John Street, Church, died on Saturday, September 28, aged 79.

Betty worked on the assembly line at Mastabar.

She loved walking with dogs, playing bingo and socialisin­g with friends.

Wife of the late Allan Dennett, she was beloved mother of Paul, dear friend of Pat, Laura and aunty.

The funeral will take place on Thursday, October 17 at 11am, at Accrington Crematoriu­m.

NELLY MCINTOSH

NELLY McIntosh, of Townfield and Coach House, died on Wednesday, October 2, aged 90.

She worked most of her working life at Broadloom Carpets, Rishton from where she retired.

A member of the Naturalist Society and Ramblers Associatio­n, she was also the area co-ordinator for Cancer Research.

She loved hiking in the Lake District.

Wife of the late Jimmy, she was mother of Julia, Trevor and the late Gerald, leaves grandchild­ren Katy, Clare, Lisa and Daniel, greatgrand­children Scarlett, Sophie and Billie, and was mother-in-law to Christine.

The funeral will take place on Wednesday, October 16 at 1pm at St Peter & St Paul’s, Rishton, followed by a committal at Accrington Crematoriu­m, conducted by Fr Chris Holden.

MICHAEL DAVIES

MR Michael Davies, previously from Jackhouse, Oswaldtwis­tle, died in Burnley Hospital, on Saturday, September 28, aged 81.

Michael was a chartered quantity surveyor and member of the Chartered Institute of Quantity Surveyors.

He had an office in the 60s on James’ Street in Accrington and then in Manchester.

He was a keen walker with Stepping Out and The Crumblies walking groups.

A keen gardener, he was well known to walkers and dog walkers in the Jackhouse area of Oswaldtwis­tle.

He was a regular visitor and keen supporter of Oswaldtwis­tle Library.

He was husband to Barbara, father of Martin and Ruth, grandfathe­r to Radmilla, Amy and George, great-grandfathe­r to James and father-in-law to Sabine.

The funeral will take place on Monday, October 14, at Accrington Crematoriu­m at 11am, conducted by the minister Sarah Flanagan.

Funeral director: Wolstenhol­mes. MR Mervyn Henry Jones, aged 63, of Accrington, surrounded by his loving family, sadly passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 3.

He was the dearly beloved husband of Liz and loving dad of Kerry.

Merve, as he was known, will be greatly missed by all his loving family and friends.

A celebratio­n of Merve’s life will be held at Immanuel Parish Church, New Lane, Oswaldtwis­tle on Thursday, October 17 at 11am, followed by committal at Pleasingto­n Crematoriu­m, Blackburn at 12.15pm.

This will be followed by drinks and food in his memory.
