Goal marks ideal return for Zanzala

-

ACCRINGTON Stanley striker Offrande Zanzala was delighted to mark his return with a goal on Saturday as he helped his side earn a 2-2 draw at home to Oxford United.

Zanzala has missed the first eight weeks of the campaign due to a hamstring injury, but he made an instant impact in his comeback after coming on at half-time and scoring on 73 minutes against Oxford.

It had been a long road back to fitness for Zanzala, and he was extremely happy to find the back of the net in front of the loyal Stanley supporters that have backed him throughout his injury.

“I am happy to come back and play in front of our fans. In the second half we created more chances and it was great to get the goal and get a point for the team, it was an important point,” he told the club’s official website.

“It’s moments like this which you dream about, when you are out you visualise scoring in your head and I have been waiting for this moment to get the first goal of the season.

“Now it’s happened, I can get that confidence and kick on and keep scoring goals and help the team where I can by my performance and goals.

“The gaffer wasn’t happy at half-time but it’s part of football. Sometimes you go into games and you don’t start the greatest and there are a few players who aren’t on their game straight away but the most important thing is we turned it around in the second half.

“We were the better team in the second half, we created chances, we were a threat in areas and we looked like we had life in us.

“We are just happy we have stopped good opposition and I felt we deserved the three points and on another day we could have got it. The gaffer has talked about the confidence he has in me so it’s been nice to come on in the second half and to get the goal.

“It means a lot to me and I am sure it means a lot to him to back me, it’s great to show if you believe in someone anything could happen and I have done that.

“As a team, we are going in the right direction, we will reflect on Saturday and take it onto our next game.”
