‘Practically perfect’ production
PUPILS at a Accrington Academy showed off their talents in a “practically perfect” musical production.
Their eagerly-anticipated winter show-stopper Mary Poppins was delivered by a cast and crew made up of students from Year 7 to 13.
They had worked ‘ tirelessly’ with staff since September to deliver the very best show for their friends and families.
Students began with a special matinee performance for 300 local primary pupils – encouraging a sing-along to everyone’s favourite songs, including ‘Chim Chim Cher-ee’, ‘A Spoonful of Sugar’ and ‘Supercali-fragilistic-expialidocious’.
Teachers hailed the show as ‘absolutely outstanding’ and said their children had a ‘fantastic time’. Accrington Academy then repeated their dazzling performances for audiences made up of their friends, families and local community members.
The cast included Carla Rutherford as Mary Poppins, Harry Worsdall as Bert, and Abbie Kenyon, Josh Blackburn, Alisha Whelan-Baxter and Muhammad- Shohan Naveed as members of the Banks family.
Headteacher James Kerfoot said: “This year’s winter performance has been superb and showcased the exceptional talents, hard work and creativity of students right across the Academy.
“It is not easy to replicate a show to the same high standard over several days, so our young people can be incredibly proud of themselves.
“Likewise, I know how much time and energy our Performing Arts Team have put into making the performance a success – thank you to all the staff and parents who have supported it.”
