Men are hit for six

LADIES of Baxenden Cricket Club secured an all-out victory against a team of husbands and friends in 1976, pictured above.

The charity match was to raise money for the Accrington Children’s Research Associatio­n.

A chicken salad supper was provided after the match and there was also a tombola and a cake stall.

The next photo, top right, shows St Augustine’s Club Scouts preparing to set off for a camping weekend at Tawd Vale, near Ormskirk.

Pictured right, Brian Finn, from James Street WMC Oswaldtwis­tle, won the Accrington and District Federation of WMC’s annual bowls competitio­n at Spring Hill WMC from 131 other competitor­s.

He beat Mr J Cronshaw, from Bold Street WMC Accrington, in the final before a large crowd.

The two semi-finalists were Sydney Street’s K Hitchen and J Wilmington.

Accrington golfers brought back the Worsley Trophy from East Lancashire Women’s Scratch Shield tournament at Blackburn (pictured bottom right).

Sue Allen won the prize for the best net and June Pendergras­t the prize for the best gross score in the bronze division.

The victorious Accrington team was June Pendergras­t, Sue Allen, Pauline Dawson and Brenda Larder.

Our final photo, bottom left, shows members of Accrington Canine Working Men’s Club celebratin­g the official opening of the improved games room and new bar facilities.

The ceremony was led by Thwaites area manager Bernard Swinson and free drinks were given to everybody present.
