LEAGUE ONE STANLEY........................... 1 TRANMERE ROVERS ..... 1

ACCRINGTON Stanley had to settle for a point as they were held to a draw away from home against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.

Sean McConville was on the scoresheet for the Reds, but Kieron Morris equalised for Tranmere just before the interval to take a share of the spoils at Prenton Park.

The draw with Tranmere has left Accrington in 18th place in the League One table, five points above the relegation zone, and manager John Coleman felt it was a fair result.

“A draw was probably fair. We started well but did not carry it on. Sometimes you have to dig in and take the point and that’s what we did,” he said.

“We should have been going in at half-time 3-0 up and we’ve ended up 1-1 with their only shot in the game on goal. That’s the frustrating thing.

“They’ve had a couple of long-range pokes in the second half but not really troubled our keeper and we’ve had a couple of breaks that we should’ve done better with, but sometimes you just have to battle away.”

Accrington were quick out of the blocks at the start of the first half, beginning when Sadou Diallo had a strike saved at the second attempt by former Reds goalkeeper Scott Davies on seven minutes.

Jordan Clark then threatened when he powered his way into the area, but he couldn’t get his shot away and the chance went begging.

The Reds continued to dictate proceedings in the opening stages, with Colby Bishop firing at goal on 13 minutes but Davies made another smart stop as dived low to deny him.

Stanley finally made their early pressure count on 18 minutes when McConville got the opening goal. Mark Hughes sent a ball into the box which eventually fell to McConville, who tapped home from close range to register his third goal in two games.

Things got worse for the home side just after the half hour mark when Tranmere captain and goalkeeper Davies suffered an injury, forcing him to be substituted on 32 minutes for Luke Pilling.

Despite dominating proceedings, Stanley were made to pay for their missed chances when Tranmere equalised on 38 minutes. Corey BlackettTaylor’s cross was met by
