‘Massive bonus’ for club after Bolton tie

-

ACCRINGTON Stanley manager John Coleman admits that his team have been given a huge financial boost following their EFL Trophy victory over Bolton Wanderers in midweek.

Stanley ran out 2-0 winners in the game after goals in each half from Offrande Zanzala and Colby Bishop, meaning Stanley have progressed to the last 16.

A trip to Fleetwood Town awaits them in the next round, and Coleman has revealed just how much the money means to the club.

“£20,000 is a massive bonus for us and it’s a great chance to get to Wembley.

“We have got a healthy competitive squad, players are playing who weren’t involved a couple of months ago and have done well,” he told the club’s official website.

“It’s been a chance for them to stake a claim for the shirt. We know that, if they do well, then they will keep the shirt.”

Coleman has also reflected on Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Tranmere, insisting he was proud with certain aspects of the performance.

“I have watched it again and a draw was probably fair. We started well but did not carry it on,” he said.

“It didn’t help losing Sean (McConville) to injury just before half-time and that’s not to decry Joe Pritchard as he did well, it’s just Sean gives us a different dimension.

“Joe did magnificently defensively but, for the chances we created, we should have done better with them.

“A couple of months ago we would probably have lost this game but we did see it out professionally.”
