The community comes together for Christmas

-

AROUND 90 guests attended a community Christmas party at Mount Carmel High School.

Parishioners from local Catholic Parish Churches of St Mary’s Oswaldtwistle, St Mary’s, Clayton-le-Moors, St Joseph’s and St Anne’s, residents from Rough Lee Care Home, local residents and staff family members were among the guests.

A delicious festive meal was prepared and served by school catering staff and pupils served food, waited on the guests and chatted to them.

Entertainment was provided after the meal by Mount Carmel’s choir of 50 pupils led by music teacher Miss Javaid.

Headteacher Xavier Bowers said the event, now in its seventh year, was ‘Mount Carmel at its very best’.

School choirs, singers, readers and musicians from five local schools all also came together for the annual Catholic Schools’ Partnership Carol Concert at Mount Carmel school hall.

The other participating schools were St Oswald’s, St Mary’s Oswaldtwistle, Sacred Heart, St Anne’s and St Joseph’s and St Mary’s Clayton-le-Moors and more than £800 for charity Epilepsy Action in memory of former pupil Millie Ashworth.

Year 7 pupils took part in a sponsored sleepover at Mount Carmel in aid of Derian’s House Children’s Hospice.

They enjoyed team games and a fun quiz and breakfast was donated by Warburtons . Science teachers also dressed up as elves and organised a series of festive-themed experiments.

Pupils were tasked with working out the force needed to set off a party popper, how to use kinetic forces to get Santa’s sleigh up the chimney and how to make a chemistry snow globe.
