WHAT you’ve been saying on our Facebook page this week:

●● ACCRINGTON included in government’s £1bn Future High Streets scheme - but it won’t see a penny (January 3) VICKY Pilkington: I think it’s a good idea to give small businesses or potential businesses training and support. It’s all good and well chucking money into the town if the people who will be running the businesses within the town have no support/ guidance system in place. SARAH Briggs: It’s the council’s fault/ it’s the governments fault/ the bus stop/ the tree! Blah blah blah! NO it’s our fault! So stop whining and whinging on Facebook. Don’t buy off the internet or big supermarkets and GO into town. Some people just love the doom and gloom!

TRACY Landon: All everyone has to do is go down town and spend money. The town can thrive again. Stop shopping in supermarkets. Get spending in town. Help yourselves to get a better town centre.

ALEX Barrett: Just think if people stopped buying off the internet and buy from the town shops the town wouldn’t be the way it is. You would helped save the town and the environment - less plastic packaging and diesel fumes for are kids to breathe in. But let’s face it it doesn’t matter what they do or how much money they spend as most of you will still moan about it buy online or buy out of town. Just think, if everyone used the town, how good it would be? TRAVERS Lawrence: The big stores from Accrington have gone. Why not ask those stores, for example M&S which was a major store that attracted shoppers to Accrington, why they left? Throwing money at statistics isn’t the problem. Find the root cause of the problem and fix it or throwing money at something won’t work.

●● WHAT next for Graham Jones after General Election defeat (January 3):

DAVID A Riley: That’s the risk of being an MP. At least after the General Election we will get Brexit carried out. That’s the important thing.

HEATH Groves: In a 63pc leave territory he consistently voted against Brexit bills. He was voted in for the constituents’ requirements - not his own political gain. Let this be a lesson to future MPs. Do the will of your constituents or you will be replaced.

COUNCILLOR Melissa Fisher: One lesson I’ve learned from this election is how it’s turned the general public into thinking they can post vile comments about politicians and each other, the loss of empathy towards other human beings because of their views on Brexit, the childish behaviour of some and how social media has influenced everyone. No one can predict the future, but I would put money on how our country will suffer under another five years of a Tory Government, but at least we will have left the EU eh!

●● PLANS unveiled for canalside housing development in Rishton (January 3):

IAIN Wallace: It looks great but 75 new homes have just been completed on the opposite side of the canal. Rishton has three primary schools which are generally fully subscribed, Have any thought gone into supporting the additional school placement numbers seeing as these are starter homes?

KATE Conboy: How boring. It’s time architects and developers were more creative and greener housing! It’s good that they are providing affordable housing. We need much more of that.

MARGARET Taggart: It would be great to see that area regenerated.
