PUB bosses say they took ‘disciplinary action’ against their kitchen staff following a poor Food Hygiene Rating.

The Griffin’s Head in Huncoat was awarded a zero rating and told it needed to make urgent improvements following an inspection on October 10 last year.

Major improvements were required for their food handling and the cleanliness of the facilities while urgent improvements were deemed necessary for their food safety management.

The Griffin’s Head, on Burnley Road, released a statement following the hygiene rating, saying that they took immediate action following the rating and claiming that they had made all the necessary changes suggested to them by the visiting Hyndburn Environmental Health Officer.

They said: “During a visit on 10th October 2019 from an Hyndburn Environmental Health Officer (EHO) we regrettably received a zero food hygiene rating due to conditions found during the inspection requiring major improvement.

“Following this visit we took immediate disciplinary action against all kitchen staff and undertook urgent staff Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) training to ensure the Safer Food Better Business (SFBB) management procedures were being adhered to.

“We also made the necessary and recommended improvements as advised by the Hyndburn EHO.

“A revisit by a Hyndburn EHO was completed on the November 8 2019 where improvements in all areas inspected were witnessed and we provided details of action that had been taken and that would be taken in the future to ensure satisfactory compliance would be maintained.

“Based on this visit the EHO advised that a score of 4 out of 5 could have been achieved.

“The law requires a three-month period between rescoring so that premises are able to demonstrate ongoing compliance. We now have a new kitchen team and are therefore currently awaiting a rescoring visit in January 2020.”

The report stated that major improvement was required to the handling of food and cleanliness of the facilities. It also stated that urgent improvement was needed to ensure ‘food sold is safe to eat’.

The Observer contacted Hyndburn Council asking to see the full report last year. The request was declined and the council have refused to release the report.
