LOOKING BACK

-

CUB Scouts preparing for the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977 feature in

Looking Back this week.

Pictured top left, the McLean pack from All Saint’s Clayton-le-Moors, sported a specially designed Silver Jubilee Scout and Guide badge, making them one of the first packs in the area to wear the emblem.

All profits from the sale of the badges went to the Queen’s Silver Jubilee appeal and help young people.

Next, on the top right, Paddock House Dramatic Society scored a success with their production of ‘Wind in the Willows’.

The musical adaptation of the classical book was described as an ‘animal and music extravaganza’.

The picture shows six-year-old Janet Mulderigg, who played a baby otter, carrying out a last-minute costume check before the opening night.

Also included are

Sarah Fowler, Patricia Cuthbert, Susan Pilkington and Jane Bartlett.

The photograph on the right was taken at a gift day held at Orchard

Street Methodist Church, Great Harwood.

The event marked the 75th anniversary of the church and was opened by former member Herbert Gee.

The picture shows three-year-old Helen Nichol with Susan Ogden, Ethel Wigglesworth, Victoria Eatough, Maud Kemp, Annie Harrison and Cissie Ratcliffe.

Pictured on the bottom right is Mrs Barbara Clarke, landlady of the Oak Tree Inn on Blackburn Road, Accrington, who presented a cheque for £241.36 to Frank McKinley, chairman of

Accrington and District Peter Pan Club.

The money was raised by a dozen regulars who took part in a sponsored walk from Blackpool.

Our final photo this week shows members of Accrington Flower Club holding a Christmas Fair at Accrington Conservative Club.

The Mayor of Hyndburn, Coun Jessie Hall MBE, and Mayoress Freda Coe were present.

They are pictured with chairman Edith Taylor, vice-chairman Phyllis Longrigg and club founder member Jean Bond.
