Clark: Put pain behind us quickly

-

STANLEY winger Jordan Clark felt his side only had themselves to blame following their 2-1 home defeat to Southend United on Saturday.

The Reds came up short at the Wham Stadium, and Clark admits it was due to the players being unable to convert the amount of chances that they created.

“It was disappointing to lose, I thought we played okay during the first half and created a lot of chances but if you don’t take them then you don’t win games,” he told the club’s official website.

“The second half performance was really disappointing, we didn’t do anything what had been working for us which was strange.

“We look back at our results and you’d probably say that we do struggle with those type of games, they didn’t come out and press us and we had a bit more of the ball in the first half.

“We knew what kind of game it was going to be, it was never going to be a pretty game and it was always going to be a battle.

“They’re fighting for their lives because they’re struggling down at the bottom, but we’re disappointed because it was a game that we needed to win to extend the gap between ourselves and those teams closer to the bottom end of the table.

“We’re looking forwards rather than backwards but with a disappointing result like the one on Saturday, we’ve got to move on quickly.”

The game on Saturday saw Clark return to the side after a brief absence due to a hamstring injury, but he insists he is once again 100 per cent fully fit and ready to give it his all for the side.

“I’ve not been away for too long, it’s only been one game in the league and then the Fleetwood game,” he said.

“I’m still match fit and I felt fine to be honest, I felt good in the first half and I feel like I fitted back in well.

“I was happy but the result and the performance changes your mood, and ultimately that’s the main thing.”
