A MASSIVE part of being Mayor is about raising money for local charities and I’m lucky to have a fabulous Mayoral Charity Committee, a small group of volunteers who work really hard to help raise as much money as possible for my four chosen Mayor’s Charities.

My four Mayoral charities are; Play4Uz2, a charity working in partnership to build the North West’s first special educational needs and disability playground here in Hyndburn; Derian House Children’s

Hospice, which helps children and young people, whose lives are too short, to make happy memories in an environment of fun, respect and above all, high quality care.

Also the North West Air Ambulance, which takes advanced healthcare to the scene of an accident; reaching, treating and transferring patients to definitive care as quickly as possible, thus improving chances of survival and reducing the risk of long term injury.

Last but by no means least, is the Hyndburn branch of Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity dedicated to helping everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can by providing physical, financial and emotional support.

They take the time to understand everyone as a person so that they can provide the support, tools and inspiration they need to find their best way through, understanding that everyone’s cancer journey is unique.

These are four very worthy causes and now we’re looking forward to our biggest fundraising event of the year, the Mayor’s Ball, set to take place at the newly refurbished magnificent Town Hall in Accrington on Friday 28th February, starting at 6.30pm.

This sparkling black tie event will be hosted by fabulous BBC Radio

Lancashire presenter, Stephen Lowe, with entertainment provided by the ever popular Gavin Young. It’s set to be a fantastic evening and sure to be enjoyed by all.

Tickets are £35 per person including three course dinner and first class entertainment in the Town Hall’s spectacular surroundings.

Please join us if you can and help us raise as much as we can for these four local charities who do such great work for people in our community.

I want to say a big thank you also to the Civic Arts Centre Team and all who attended their quiz night last Friday, with all proceeds go to the Mayoral Charity Fund.
