ACCRINGTON CATENIANS

ACCRINGTON Catenian Circle continue their busy life with a programme of varied social events.

In early September the bowling team won the Provincial Shield by beating Preston South in the final.

Also in early September a group of around 16 attended the Provincial Ball held at Lancaster House Hotel in Lancaster.

Following the October meeting Mike Neild organised a ‘Call my Bluff’ session.

This proved to be very popular and produced some entertaini­ng and witty descriptio­ns and responses.

Prior to the November meeting the Circle held their Annual Mass for Deceased Brothers and also the War Dead as the meeting was held on the anniversar­y of Armistice Day.

The celebrants were Fr David Yates and Fr Tim Curtis.

Following the meeting a group of around 70 members, wives and friends sat down to an excellent meal.

After this Franklin Schutz gave an interestin­g talk on ‘From Priesthood to Engineerin­g’.

This was an account of his life as a priest and then engineerin­g representa­tive.

Following the December meeting a group of around 70 enjoyed a Christmas Dinner.

After dinner the Circle Choir entertaine­d those assembled.

This was actually a dress rehearsal for the

Provincial Carol Concert to be held later in the week.

The Circle choir along with those from other Circles participat­ed in the Provincial Carol Concert held in Garstang.

This was a very pleasant evening in the run up to Christmas.

Also in December a party of around 30 members, wives, children and grandchild­ren attended the pantomime Cinderella in Blackburn.

The snooker team are doing well and have won through the early rounds and now meet either Burnley or Westmorlan­d in the semi-final.

Future events include a family lunch, a table top treasure hunt and the joint meeting with

Chorley in February.

The Catenian Associatio­n is an internatio­nal brotherhoo­d of Catholic business and profession­al men who meet socially once a month.

We are committed, through our faith, to enhancing family life, supporting all in difficult times, those in need and in particular young people.

We have a varied programme of social events together with our families, friends and relations and the widows of deceased members.

FOR our first meeting in February we are delighted to welcome Paddy Brown talking about ‘Whales or Fishes - The Whalley Story’.

We meet in the Lecture Room of Accrington Library, St James Street, Accrington, commencing at 7.30pm, and welcome visitors, admission is £3 per meeting
