ACCRINGTON Stanley earned a point away from home as they drew with Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium.

Dion Charles opened the scoring for Stanley on 15 minutes, before Josh Brayford equalised on the half hour mark. That’s the way the game ended, and Accrington boss John Coleman was fairly pleased with the result.

“We seemed to have been stuck on 29 points a long time so to get to 30, even though it’s just a point, feels a lot better. We’d have taken it before the game,” he said.

“Not many teams will come here and do what we did, keep the ball off them for half an hour and dominate the game. We scored a good goal and could have had another one and we have gone to sleep from a set play which is disappointing so it is mixed emotions really.

“When you have led and get pegged back it always leaves a bit of a sour taste in the mouth but I think we have got to be proud of the way that we played.

“I think on the balance of play we probably deserved to win but second half it became bitty and a bit of a war of attrition in midfield. We have stopped their winning League run here and we have stopped the rot ourselves.”

It was a quiet start to the match, but then it burst into life on 15 minutes when Stanley took the lead. They made the Brewers pay for a sluggish opening, as Dion Charles slotted home after Burton failed to deal with a ball that was sent into the box.

The away side weren’t ahead for long though, as Burton were able to level things up after half an hour. Oliver Sarkic’s corner was met by Brayford, who headed the ball into the net via the far post to score his first league goal of the campaign.

Things appeared to get heated on the stroke of half-time when Mark Hughes and Ryan Edwards were involved in a scuffle, with the referee opting to hand out yellow cards to both men.

After the fiery end to the first half, it was a much calmer affair after the break, with both sides struggling to create any clear-cut opportunities.

Sadou Diallo had the best chance of the half when a well-worked corner fell to his feet, but he blazed over the crossbar and the opportunity went begging.

Neither team were able to get on the scoresheet again during the closing stages, meaning that the two sides had to settle for a share of the spoils, with Burton Albion and Accrington playing out a 1-1 draw.
