AMAN who harassed female betting shop workers and exposed himself to one of them has been banned from entering every bookmakers in Accrington.

Mohammed Kabir made sexual and abusive comments to a bookies worker before dropping his trousers and exposing himself.

The 31-year-old also harassed several schoolgirls in separate incidents and later threatened two police officers with a knife as they attempted to arrest him.

Prosecutor Stephen Parker told Burnley Crown Court that the harassment incidents happened over two days in September last year.

The first took place at around 9.30pm on September 24 when Kabir, of Craven Street, Accrington, verbally abused female worker in a betting shop before dropping his trousers and exposing himself.

The next day Kabir went into the Accrington William Hill branch, where he was a regular customer, and a staff member described how he was behaving in an ‘unpredictable way’.

He then made obscene gestures before being verbally abusive, the court heard.

Staff at the branch locked the door of the premises once he went outside to deter him.

Kabir later approached a female worker from a Paddy Power branch as she visited a cashpoint in the town centre.

He called her explicit names before slapping her across the face with an open palm, the court heard.

Two hours later Kabir entered a BetFred bookmakers in Accrington and told a female worker “I’m going to punch you”.

Mr Parker said another incident happened at a chip shop takeaway on Burnley Road when Kabir became threatening and abusive towards a staff member.

He told the victim that he was a drug dealer and was “going to get his boys round”.

Kabir also approached two teenage schoolgirls in Accrington town centre and called them “slags and prostitutes”.

Mr Parker, said: “One of the girls said she was trying not to cry.

“The defendant said ‘I’m not going to touch you, I don’t want to get my hands dirty’ before spitting in their direction.”

The same afternoon he approached two other girls on Hyndburn Road.

Mr Parker said Kabir asked one 15-year-old if she smoked.

He told her he was a drug dealer before slapping her across the face with an open palm.

Kabir also harassed another 14-year-old girl by following her on his bike and making abusive comments.

The court heard that she was left ‘frightened’ and called her father on the phone for help.

When two police officers went round to his address to arrest him on October 27 he threatened them in the upstairs of the property with a six-inch knife saying “I will slit your throats”.

Mr Stuart said there was then a stand off at the address and the defendant lit a cannabis joint in his bedroom while the officers were on the landing.

The officers requested assistance and Kabir was detained after a police dog was deployed and grabbed him by the leg.

Kabir pleaded guilty to eight counts of harassment, two of assault, one of indecent exposure and one of affray.

He had no previous convictions and was described by the prosecution as ‘a man of good character’ before the twoday crime spree.

Defending, Mark Stuart said that the recent death of both his parents had been the ‘catalyst’ for the behaviour along with increased cannabis use and a violent assault on him.

Judge Sara Dodd sentenced Kabir to 12 months in jail and imposed a fiveyear restraining order banning the defendant from entering any bookmakers in Accrington.
