Public urged to stop sharing video online

-

POLICE are asking people to stop sharing video circulating online of the tragedy.

Since the crash distressing CCTV footage has been shared on Snapchat.

In a statement Lancashire Constabulary said: “We would urge people to refrain from sharing the footage further.

“This has been a devastating few days for the family of the man who has lost his life and we will continue to offer our support to his loved ones at this sad and difficult time.

“As part of our investigation we have become aware of a video showing the collision. This was shared on Snapchat and contained very distressing images of those involved.

“We know this video has been widely shared but want to make it clear sharing this video could constitute a criminal offence.

“Please think about the impact it will have on the families of those involved in the crash and indeed anyone else who may find themselves watching it.

“We would also ask people not to speculate on the nature of the collision. Our thoughts remain with those involved.”

Baxenden councillor Terry Hurn has asked roads chiefs to carry out a safety inspection of the road, following this and other incidents.

Sending his condolences to Mr Sodagar’s loved ones, Coun Hurn posted on Facebook: “I have become very concerned about the safety on Manchester Road recently and the accidents that have occurred, one being fatal and on the same section of the road between the Alma Inn and the Pizza takeaway.

“I have spoken to our County Councillor asking for County officials to look at the safety aspects of this section as soon as possible.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends at this very sad time.”
