AN Accringtonbased company was joined by Accrington Stanley football players in getting active and raising awareness for a mental health initiative.

In partnership with the charity Mind, Red January is a nationwide project to get people active every day throughout the month of January.

Healthcare professionals agree that physical activity is one of the best cures for many of the ills of modern life.

That’s why last month staff members from mail order and online catalogue company Studio Retail set themselves the challenge of getting active every day throughout the month, whether that was through getting involved with sports teams, running, swimming, or just taking a walk on your lunch break at work.

Members of staff were encouraged to take part, with initiatives being given fun names like “the Monday Mooch”, which is a weekly short walk organised by staff on their Monday lunch break.

“Such activities helped to strengthen working relationships and encourage people to become more aware of the beautiful local surroundings which includes parkland and canals, both of which support a great deal of wildlife,” CEO of the company Paul Kendrick, said.

“We asked our staff to support the Red January initiative by getting out and about wherever possible, and the results have been brilliant.

“Meeting the stars of Accrington Stanley really helped to build interest and motivation about the project.

“We have seen new friendships forged across different departments, and a general good feeling and positivity though-out our workforce.”
