LOOKING BACK
THIS week’s pictures and stories are taken from the Tuesday, January 17, 1984 edition of the Midweek Observer.
Colts pulled off a fine 3-0 victory over lowly Altham Athletic in the junior section of the Accrington District Boys’ Football League.
The match, switched from Wilson’s playing fields, Clayton-le-Moors to Memorial Park, Great Harwood, because of bad weather. Goals were scored in the second half by Cross, Parkinson and Greenwood.

In the centre of the page, the chief administration officer at Accrington and Rossendale College, Mr Clifford Westwell, retired after 18 years service. He is pictured receiving one of his many cards from Mr Austin watched by vice principal Mr Jack Fisher.
A special lunch was held in his honour at the college restaurant and he received a large number of presents and cards relating to his major hobby of DIY.
Steven Ward is pictured handing over a cheque for £100 to Sister Gabriel of the Alex Group on the bottom right of the page.
The previous term the children at Hollins High School busied themselves with raising money, initially making food parcels for the elderly.
Their efforts were so great that they decided to donate the left over money to a local charity and chose the Alex Home for the Physically handicapped at Rough
Lee, opened the previous year and founded by sister Gabriel.
Accrington Cricket Clubs winter nets session at Hyndburn Sports Centre is our final photo this week.
The sessions took place between 9pm and 10pm every Thursday for 12 weeks until the weather was a bit better!
