Talented youth show the Y factor
HYNDBURN young people’s achievements were celebrated at a talent show and awards ceremony event.
Charities Ynot Aspire and Carer’s Link Lancashire came together for the annual CHARM awards, which showcase some of the borough’s fantastic young people.
Working closely with secondary schools, the charities brought together a Young People’s forum to publicise and staff the event, a key aspect of which is to raise vital funds.
Each of the schools held their own in-house talent event, with the winners coming together at the Oswaldtwistle Civic Theatre to battle to be crowned Overall Talent Winner. Carla & Sean, of Accrington Academy took the title, ahead of Terrell Dickinson, of the Hollins Technology College.
Schools nominated pupils in four categories - Young Voice, Inspiration Award, Sporting Individual and Young Carer and the judges also chose a Young Person of the Year Award, which went to Adam Davies, of the Hyndburn Academy. Mount Carmel RC High won the school fundraiser award after collecting £845.86.
There were also presentations and thanks to forum members involved in planning and managing the event, covering sound and lighting, front of house, backstage and presenting as well as designing the programmes and securing raffle prizes.
Sharon Burch, chief officer at Ynot Aspire, said: “All of these young people are amazing and should be very proud of their achievements. Our Forum did an excellent job in planning and putting the event together and it is great to see the schools work together to make it such a success.”
Tickets are also on sale for Ynot Aspire’s annual Black Tie Ball on Saturday, March 7 from 7pm. Tickets priced £55 (tables can also be booked) are selling fast for the event at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel, which will include a threecourse dinner, auction, raffle and live music.
