THE Prospects Foundation is helping to organise events to help people get active, out and about and in tune with nature.

A Wellbeing Walk along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal has been organised for between 10am and noon on Wednesday, February 26.

Walkers will meet at ‘The Woodlands’ entrance just off Whalley Road.

Activity organiser Barbara Sharples said Prospects are hosting monthly walks with the Canal and River Trust.

She said: “The walks will be taken at a stroll and not a long or fast cardiovascular pace.

“They are aimed at people who have not walked for a long time and are a little bit afraid of joining a walking group, and those who want to get out and start building up their walking again.”

The Foundation, along with Hyndburn council and the Ribble Rivers Trust, are also running a series of volunteer activity weekends at Hyndburn’s Local Nature Reserves, Peel Park/The Coppice and Woodnook Vale.

A planting session will be held at Rothwell Heights, which is part of Woodnook Vale, on Saturday, February 22.

People can come and plant trees to help improve the woodland.

Roger Plum, who will be running the event for Prospects, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for people to come and do their bit for climate change and also improve their local environment.

Families and individuals are all welcome, just wrap up warm and wear suitable footwear for muddy conditions.”

Rothwell Heights are at the top of Willows Lane in Accrington - opposite the KCL entrance.

The session will start at 10am and people are welcome to come along and just do one tree or stay until they are all planted.

All tools and guidance will be provided but refreshments - if required - will need to be brought.
