Home card appeal to make Kathleen’s day

-

CARE home residents are celebrating the century of their oldest resident and appealing for birthday cards to wish her well.

Kathleen Holden, of Sherwood House on Clifton Street, Rishton was due to reach the magnificent age of 100 on Thursday, March 5.

Kathleen has outlived a lot of her family and friends, is a local lass and has lived in Rishton all her life.

She began work as a teenager aged 15, cleaning the Walmsley Arms on the High Street in Rishton.

She worked at Universal Handbags and then went on to work at Bristols during the war.

Kathleen also worked for English Electric in Clayton-le-Moors and was promoted to be a manager there.

She married Joe her husband and they lived a happy life together in Rishton until he passed away a few years ago.

Before she retired she was working at St Charles’s School where she helped with the lunchtime meals and was a popular addition to their staff, loved by all the children.

Kathleen would like to receive as many birthdays card as she can to mark the milestone, and an appeal for cards for her has been placed on Facebook.

Kath Howard, registered manager for Sherwood House, said: “Kathleen is very intelligent and keeps abreast with the news. She reads three papers a day and enjoys completing the crosswords. She likes to chat with everybody in the home and is a great lip reader as her hearing has diminished over the years.”

Kath said they are still appealing for birthday cards to make Kathleen’s birthday even more special.

They can be handed in or posted to Sherwood House, Clifton Street, Rishton, BB1 4DW or to their sister home at Townfield & Coach House Care Home, 99 to 103 Church Street, Great Harwood BB1 7QB.
