ACCRINGTON DISTRICT PROBUS CLUB

-

THE 48th AGM and the weather was suitably chilly, with frozen interludes. Despite this, not a bad turn out as Kathleen tinkled her last meeting into session.

Before we can get started we had to deal with Joan’s retirement.

She has served us well for several years and we wish her many happy Mondays, without having to get the coffee and biscuits out ready for the before-meeting chat.

Now we have to find a replacement, or make our own brews.

Kathleen reminded us how we have been entertained and even educated, usually both, during the past year.

Steve then explained the state of our finances and, although we are still in the black, it was agreed that the annual subscription should be raised to £20.

This is the first increase in 16 years but venue hire and speakers fees continue to increase so the rise was sensible, appropriate and agreed without dissent.

Steve agreed to continue as treasurer, and proposed the vote of thanks to Kathleen for her year in the chair.

George Smith was then voted unopposed to the chair, with Roger Brunt in the vice slot for the next 12 months.

John Pickup then agreed to join the committee, meaning there is a reassuring pool of fresh talent to take the Club through to the 50th Anniversary.

George closed the meeting with a reminder that there remain some vacancies for new members.

If you are retired or retiring soon, and would like to try a free ‘taster’, please join us in Accrington Town Hall, from 10am, in the Gallery/Supper Room, at the top of the stairs from the main foyer,

Introduce yourself and enjoy coffee, a biscuit, and good company.

The next meeting is on

Monday, March 16 and then every first and third Monday, barring Bank Holidays.
