MP joins bobbies on night shift

-

HYNDBURN’S MP Sara Britcliffe joined our police force on an eight-hour nightshift to see for herself the good work they do in her constituency.

Ms Britcliffe joined local bobbies from 7pm to 3am overnight on Saturday night to Sunday morning.

Posting on her Facebook page, the MP said she was “in awe of the service they provide” to the Hyndburn public.

She said: “Not only was I able to experience first hand what it’s like to be on the front line, but I was able to speak to the police, sergeant, inspector and others, about how we as a government can help and what more we can do.

“What must also be ensured is that the Police are able to be tough on crime whilst also feeling safe and supported when out on the job. I am so glad to have been able to witness the dedication and work that our Police do on a daily basis and I am in awe of the service they provide to our constituency.”

The Home Office have pledged to recruit another 20,000 police officers nationwide over the next three years.

Lancashire Police Commissioner Clive Grunshaw’s latest budget includes investment in 153 additional officers across the county, with a 5 per cent police council tax precept rise helping to fund them.

Ms Britcliffe added: “It was positive to hear that they are benefiting from the increase of numbers but, of course, there is always more to be done and I have benefited from hearing about what other changes can be made to support them, from their own personal experience, and make sure that they are fully supported in the vital roles that they play in our community. I am now able to take this back to Westminster.”
